Research shows that when parents are actively involved with their children's education, students' grades are higher, their self-esteem is greater, and they are more socially adjusted. In fact, the most accurate indicator of a student's academic success in school is not tied to family income or social status, but the extent to which a family:
- creates a home environment that encourages learning.
- sets high but realistic achievement and career expectations.
- becomes involved in their child's education and in the community.
In addition to attending parent-teacher conferences, opportunities to get involved at Grant abound. A few examples include:
- attend our Halloween Carnival.
- help organize the Jog-a-thon.
- volunteer in the classroom (Make sure to fill out your volunteer paperwork at the office as soon as possible.)
- attend PTA meetings. (second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm or 7:45 am)
- sit on a school-wide committee (English Language Learners Committee [ELAC], School Site Council [SSC], Site Governance Team, etc.)
- help with after-school programs such as coaching a Science Olympiad team.
